Chelsey Schmidt

Dance Instructor

Miss Chelsey began dancing at the age of 3 at Sawyer Dance Academy. There she trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Modern, Pointe, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre and joined the Competitive Dance Troupe by the age of 7. Competing for 10 years at Regional and National Competitions around the country, she has performed in the major cities of Detroit, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Orlando and worked with various professional artists within the workshops of those competitions. She was an assistant teacher for the Sawyer Dance Academy for a few years, creating choreography for younger students for the annual recital until finding Berrien County Dancers during her junior year of High School. There she continued her training and technique for the next two years, performing many pieces and working with various professional dancers like the Leher Dance Company, Jennifer Archibald, Autumn Eckman, and Winifred Haun. She also created 3 dances of her own to showcase at the winter and spring performances.

After graduating High School, she continued her education at Southwestern Michigan College, pursuing a Certification in Dance Teaching. There she performed many pieces of student and guest artist work as well as created 3 pieces of choreography to showcase for the winter and spring recitals. After earning her Certification, in 2012, she decided to expand her knowledge and training for dance by attending Columbia College of Chicago to earn her Bachelor’s in the Arts. There she trained in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Vogue, and West African. She also performed on Columbia’s Dance Center Stage as part of the Repertory Performance Workshop where she worked closely with Chicago artists and performers and also created a choreography piece of her own to be showcased. She graduated from Columbia College with a BA in Dance, May of 2016.

After moving back home, she found her first dance career working at Power In Motion. She spent 2 and a half years teaching classes and creating choreography for the gymnastics, cheer, and dance departments. Miss Chelsey is extremely excited for the next year and to continue her career with
Fusion. Inspired by all the talent around her and the eagerness the kids show to learn more, she
looks forward to sharing her passion and love of dance with hopes to give the best teaching
experience to those around her.
